On The Move is a result of an encounter I had with a man who busks to try and make enough money to have a place to sleep at a hotel. He didn’t look so well so I asked how he was doing and he replied: “Well, I’m on the move”. That really struck me, and stayed with me.

Hi there, James Marsh. Love the vocal performance and overall sound/mix on this track. This does have an acoustic leaning production style for my coastal playlist, but I do think the mood on this track, with its very prominent minor leaning key center makes it much too somber/moody for the playlist which has tracks that have much brighter/light progressions or lighter moods. The more moody minor key will stand out too much so I'll pass for now

Hey hey, I like the vibe here, and that there isn't too much intro before it gets going. Nice vocal layering, and the singing is very well done in general, he clearly has talent. I think I'd have liked to hear some contrasting textures, such as pad or other sustained tones in the background, mirroring the chord progression, for example. But that said, the singer is definitely carrying the song here, and the vocal processing is quite well done, EQ included. Solid work, best to you!

Hey there , great one . Admire the catchy instrumental and vibes . Though the style suits us well , the overall vocal melodies on the other hand didn't sound that convincing . Good luck! keep sharing your best stuff.

Hi Jamess Marsh, I really liked the guitar melodies and their catchy quality but unfortunately the song’s mixing quality didn’t meet my expectations as the drums’ mix sounded much too noisy and has a bright quality. I'm sorry to turn down your submission this time.

I liked this acoustic sound coming from guitars and acoustic bass. Regarding your vocals, I think you can try to improve your diction. Although your sung words are already clear. You presented a great musical structure, as well as dynamic drum fills. I note that your voice makes your singing expressive due to small pitch variations and the way you sing. There is also interplay between whistling and singing. Regarding the tempo, I find it good. For our playlists focused on indie pop, as in my case, I prefer to keep the focus of the songs and concentrate them without the banjo, although some exceptional cases are shared. That said, for selection reasons we decided to maintain the rejection of this song. The justification is to keep listener retention high enough to maintain algorithmic recommendations of the songs that were shared here or not. Good work!

Bom trabalho!

Thanks for submitting your track for consideration James. I think your singing voice is unique, but I did not find the song to be that strong lyrically and the musical arrangement seemed somewhat generic. That, of course, is just my opinion and since music taste can be somewhat subjective and other curators may be more receptive to the song. I won't be adding it but I wish you the best of luck with your promotion.

Fair enough. Personally I think the song is catchy af and would bring you repeats compared to other boring ass folk songs and actually has some social value. Should my next submission be a Taylor Swift cover?

Thank you for sharing your song! The guitar and vocals complement each other nicely, creating an interesting and well-balanced sound. I like the overall arrangement and the way the different elements come together. However, I’m currently looking for songs with a more positive and uplifting vibe that better fits the direction of my playlist. Still, it’s a solid piece of work, and I’d be happy to hear more of your music in the future!

Dear James Marsh, Thanks for sharing "On The Move" with me. The song has a very warm and atmospheric sound, like a cozy blanket gently wrapping around the listener. The male vocal performance is wonderful and expressive, complemented beautifully by subtle, tasteful guitar work. The arrangement is polished and well-produced, creating a consistent and pleasant listening experience throughout. Unfortunately, despite its many strengths, the song doesn't quite reach the level of a melancholy I'm looking for in order to include it in my playlist. I'm genuinely regret this, as the piece feels deeply intimate and heartfelt, radiating a sincere warmth that is very easy to connect with. Kindly, Anastazja

First of all, I’d like to kindly ask you to address me respectfully, in line with standard platform etiquette, and as a woman. Secondly, this is entirely my personal opinion and my own set of criteria for choosing tracks for my playlist, which I’ve been building and refining for years. Lastly, please keep the discussion respectful and refrain from making it personal.

Your entire rational for not accepting the track is it isn’t sad enough for you? Please tell me something more sad than a drunk homeless person getting rejected from town to town? If you don’t like the production fine. But don’t give me some contradictory very much NON CONSTRUCTIVE baloney about it not being sad enough. I am paying for constructive feedback not excuses.

Anastazja Curator · reviewed this track 1 day ago

I agree that the lyrics are definitely sad, but the melody itself doesn’t quite bring me to tears personally, and it lacks those strong emotional peaks. I’m not saying the track is bad at all — it’s just that right now, it doesn’t really fit the vibe of my playlist.

Hello, dear James Marsh! I just listened to On The Move, which features a classic banjo style and brings a bold drive to your vocals. The percussion remains light, while your guitar adds a subtle tension to the sound. However, I felt that the track becomes quite repetitive, moving away from the chill sound with more elements and variations in its arrangement that we're currently focusing on. We admire your work and hope to see you around again soon! Don't forget to rate our review as helpful. Nage, Chill Connections

Hi there thank you for sharing some of your tunes my way. Nice guitar work you bring here a very dynamic and organic flow running like a thread through the song. The mix is a little bit out of balance for my taste but that might be me though. Besides that some creative elements for sure though nice job! Kind regards , Jelle

Yet another non-constructive review from Intonality.

Hi James, curators are independent playlist owners sharing their own taste. They don't work for Intonality and they aren't professional reviewers, so these reviews are their opinions, not ours. A review is there to show they listened, and Jelle mentions your guitar work and the mix. You're welcome to disagree with their opinion.
